December 2023 Newsletter
Presidents Message
Season Greetings Music City Chapter Members,
How quickly the 2023 AAHAM year is concluding. While it is bittersweet, my tenure as the Tennessee Music City chapter president is drawing to a conclusion. I am excited for the future leadership of this Volunteer chapter. I have promised incoming Chapter President, Erica Copeland, that I will not only remain on the Board of Directors, but I am happy to tackle the vacant role of Membership Chair for the coming two years.
Undertaking the role of Membership Chair is extremely important as I look forward to staying engaged with this wonderful chapter. I have learned that the most valuable aspects of AAHAM are the great connections and friendships that are gained through actively participating in leadership and education. In 2023, our chapter had its first in-person educational event in the spring, more than 10 free webinars, and 12 Chapter newsletters (not quite the Twelve Days of Christmas, but not too shabby).
That being said, there are still many volunteer opportunities available to all our members. I sincerely hope you reach out to either myself or our new 2024 President if you are interested in stepping into a leadership role and/or being able to provide education via a monthly webinar. In the coming months, the Chapter is looking to increase the membership Certification numbers with Dr. Crystal Bowler driving new information to your fingertips.
We are truly entering into new and exciting times in healthcare that come with a bit of anxiety with the black swan of Artificial Intelligence rapidly becoming part of the business of healthcare. Now, more than ever, AAHAM at the national and local chapter level is critical to not only educating our membership but also providing the opportunity to members through Legislative Day to lobby our national leaders for what is best for the healthcare of our country.
As I turn the last page of this President’s chapter, I want to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Board Member Spotlight: Jacob Burns
Jacob is our Chapter Secretary who lives in Gulfport, MS. He is a Revenue Cycle Project Manager and feels that healthcare is one of the fundamental pillars of civilization. He entered his current role because he wanted to understand the revenue side of healthcare and its many complexities. He says that he is still learning something new every day, so it keeps him going.
Jacob describes himself as an introvert and gets his energy from small groups and meaningful conversations. He also describes himself as very open-minded and flexible. When he doesn’t know something, he likes to ask a lot of questions to understand and learn. Jacob likes cooking, baking, spending quality time with family and friends, and learning new things.
Jacob’s favorite quote is “Either move or be moved.” ~Ezra Pound
